They are erasing our history. We need your support now.

December 17, 2025

Our American history is threatened. The current administration ripped apart the White House — The People’s House — in real-time. No site is sacred. No history is guaranteed for protection.

Our LGBTQ history is silenced as our federal grant was rescinded for our work specifically because of its focus on LGBTQ lives.

Please help increase our individual giving by December 31. Any amount of support sends a powerful message to foundations and corporate partners that our mission resonates and is actively supported by individuals like you.

We need your support to continue our work. The NYC LGBTQ Historic Sites Project operates at the intersection of LGBTQ and American history. We conduct original research, complete rigorously reviewed scholarly documentation, and share our work with thousands of people every year — through our website and social channels; virtual and in-person public programs; partnership with the NYC Department of Education; and collaborations with colleague organizations across the city, state, and country. See more of our reach and impact here.

For ten years, we’ve accomplished this on a lean budget, supported by one full-time staff person, summer interns, and three all-volunteer co-directors donating countless hours. As opposition grows, we are not stopping. Your support powers this work. Please consider making a year-end, tax-deductible donation to the NYC LGBTQ Historic Sites Project today.

In just one decade, we’ve documented over 500 sites on our digital LGBTQ heritage map, made New York City the national leader in LGBTQ sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and served as national experts in the field of LGBTQ place-based history. Places that were long overlooked or never recognized now have their stories told and accessible to all.

In 2026, we’ll be as ambitious as ever, including putting the finishing touches on an LGBTQ historic sites guidebook published by the University of Virginia Press (more on that in the coming months!).

There is still so much more for us to uncover and protect. At this critical time, we invite you to be part of this work by making a year-end donation to the Project in support of LGBTQ history.

With gratitude,

The Project Team: Ken, Amanda, Andrew, and Jay
