Stonewall Inn with Pride colors overlayRestaurants, residences, businesses, and performance venues are some of the types of LGBTQ historic sites that exist throughout Greenwich Village. However, beyond Stonewall and a handful of others, countless locations remain hidden in plain sight and overlooked.

The NYC LGBTQ Historic Sites Project has worked to change that. Join our founders and executive director at New York Public Library as we share highlights from our pioneering, building-by-building survey of the Greenwich Village National Register Historic District. This research, documenting the district’s exceptional LGBTQ significance, was officially approved by the National Park Service in 2024.

The presentation will include information on newly identified sites, its research methodology, and the challenges of documenting queer history, from their efforts in the early 1990s to the current political climate.

Presented in the first floor Willa Cather Room. All programs are free and open to the public.
