Site of Queer Dying posterAt a time when conversations about death, dying, & the built environment are shaping both how we remember the past and imagine more just futures, we invite you to join us for a special Pratt Center for Community Development Taconic-funded workshop on Sites of Queer Dying in NYC During the AIDS Epidemic. The event is co-designed and facilitated by Taconic fellows Caroline Hibbert, Teal Nottage, Fabio Lima, and Dr. Harriet Harriss.

This afternoon & evening gathering brings together community storytellers, activists, scholars, and artists to explore what “queer memorialization” means today—honoring the lives lost during the AIDS crisis and the forms of radical care that emerged in response. Sessions include collective storytelling and a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the AIDS Memorial Quilt with Pratt’s Repair Rest Repeat group, alongside featured story stewards Joseph Golden (A Patchwork of Memory), Brad Walrond (poet, activist), and Melinda Hunt (The Hart Island Project AIDS Initiative) among others.

In the evening panel, our co-director Ken Lustbader will leads a conversation with Perry Brass (Gay Liberation Front; Gay Men’s Health Project) and Ron Goldberg (ACT UP NY – AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power) on how queer communities confronted loss, built care infrastructures, and how we might collectively commemorate these sites today amid renewed attacks on LGBTQ+ lives and histories. A day for remembrance, resistance, and reimagining how our cities hold grief, memory, and care.
