Making an invisible history visible

The first initiative to document historic and cultural sites associated with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community in the five boroughs. Sites illustrate the richness of the city’s LGBT history and the community’s influence on America. Explore the map below, view our curated themes or browse an index of all of our sites.

Our project is a work in progress. We are continuously documenting and adding sites that reflect the ethnic and geographic diversity of the LGBT community and date from the city’s founding in the 17th century to the year 2000.
